The final LASSIE-FP7 press release was published in 3 languages by CSEM on December 5th. Objective of the press release was to announce the end of the project, to highlight the main achievements and perspectives for future exploitation. The title is “LASSIE-FP7, a European project that explores innovative intelligent lighting solutions” and it contains publishable contents and pictures from the project, including the LASSIE-FP7 final application case. Please, find it HERE.

The first official LASSIE-FP7 Newsletter is now available in pdf. The Newsletter contains an overview of the project, the updated results and information about the partners’ activities. The Newsletter is distributed by email to the project contacts and will be provided to all the participants of the LASSIE-FP7 Final Workshop on SSL, on 12^th December in Muttenz (Switzerland)

Interested students or student teams must send their application by 26 September 2016 to the email address: competition@lassie-fp7.eu. The details for participation and the main competition rules are described here.

All finalists will be invited to attend the Workshop on Solid State Lighting being held on 12 December 2016 in Muttenz – Basel, Switzerland, where the winner will be announced. The travel costs within Europe and accommodation of the finalists will be covered. A certificate will be issued by the jury panel. The winner will receive a prize provided by the company REGENT that is sponsoring the Design Competition.

LASSIE-FP7 launches a design competition for students with the objective of exploring alternative and innovative ideas for applications and products as well as new design concepts for either professional or architectural luminaires that integrate its innovative modules. The details for participation and the main competition rules are described HERE.

In the last issue (#54) of LED professional Review (LpR) you can read an article about LASSIE-FP7 project on page 46. There is a headline also on the cover of the issue. The contribution is focused on “Thin-Film Light Management System for Intelligent Large-Area LED Luminaires” written by Oscar Fernández from Centre Suisse d’Electronique et de Microtechnique SA (CSEM). LASSIE-FP7 was part of CSEM’s First Business Day which was organized on 3 November 2015 at EPFL’s Microcity. Photos of LASSIE-FP7 booth are available in the Gallery section of the website. CSEM has just finalized several videos which were shot at the event to make discover or re-discover its technologies and demonstrators. Learn more about LASSIE-FP7 project from Rolando Ferrini, LASSIE-FP7 coordinator, who introduces the project and its first conceptual demonstrator in the video titled “Light Management – Large-area solid-state intelligent efficient luminaires (LASSIE)”.

LASSIE-FP7 consortium met for a two-day meeting (M24 meeting) from 14 to 15 January 2016 in Oulu, Finland, in VTT’s premises, in order to discuss the project progress made in the last 6 months and to discuss the recommendations of the Review Panel (Review meeting took place in Brussels in October 2015). Work Packages overview was presented and steps for the coming months were planned. As every 12 months, the General Assembly members also met together to check the project strategy and make decisions on open issues. External Advisory Board members also took part in the meeting. The overall project progress was presented to them and the consortium appreciated their relevant inputs.  Consortium could also appreciate VTT lab tour which was organized for them. Next meeting (M30 meeting) will be organized by LFoundry in Avezzano, Italy in July 2016.

Rolando Ferrini, LASSIE-FP7 coordinator, was invited to give a talk at the 7th edition of ForumLED Europe which took place in Lyon, France on 7 and 8 December 2015. The event is dedicated to LED technology ecosystem lighting in Europe.  ForumLED Europe is both an international congress, a show and an Investors Forum. Mr. Ferrini presentation on “(O)LEDs: Innovative solutions for high quality large area solid state lighting” is available here. You can download all speakers presentations here. LASSIE-FP7 consortium is happy to announce the release of its first conceptual demonstrator. It was firstly showcased on 26 September 2015 at CSEM Open Day event in Muttenz, Switzerland. You can learn more about the demo in the fact sheet which is available for download in Download section of the website. LASSIE-FP7 was selected among the 5 best papers at LpS 2015, 5th International LED professional Symposium +Expo which took place on 22-24 September, 2015 in Bregenz, Austria. Oscar Fernandez from CSEM gave a presentation on “Thin-Film Light Management System for Intelligent Large-Area LED Luminaires” (available here) which represented the work done within the LASSIE-FP7 project. A combined roll-up of Swissphotonics and LASSIE-FP7 was displayed at the event (please see the photo on the left).
